U.S. Wind Power Market Growing

The U.S. Department of Energy released its Annual Report on U.S. Wind Power Installation, Cost, and Performance Trends: 2007 inconjunction with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. According to the report, the U.S. had the fastest-growing wind power market in the world for the third consecutive year in 2007. Go wind!

What is required for a wind project to be successful?

In general, a "successful" wind project is one that makes financial sense.

Typically five things are needed if your wind project is going to pay for itself:

  • a good wind resource,
  • access to transmission,
  • low cost of capital (in other words, a low interest rate),
  • ability to utilize state and federal financial incentives, and
  • access to equipment
