The Bay City Times says the event will include guided bus tours of the 32-windmill Harvest Wind Farm in Oliver and Chandler townships, located 110 miles north of Detroit, plus a 5K walk and run, bicycle tour, softball tournament, live music and family activities.

As the possibilities for harnessing wind energy as a viable renewable energy source and job provider sweep across West Michigan, local governments face the challenges of establishing zoning ordinances that regulate the use of residential and commercial wind turbines.

Traverse City, Michigan was the first municipal utility in the state to install a utility scale turbine in 1996.

Two turbines were installed in 2001 on old sewer spray fields to help power Mackinaw City, Michigan.
